Activism
It is hard for me to pinpoint what exact moment from my past got me dedicated to wanting to save the planet. However, I do remember always wanting to fight against injustices, and that has been consistent throughout my entire life, and that began with an old man and a theater.
Growing up in Atlanta, I was lucky enough to attend performances at the beautiful Fox Theater. One day I was watching TV, and they were reporting about Joe Patten. He lived above the Fox Theater and did maintenance on the theater whenever necessary. A new company purchased the theater and they were planning to tear down the building where he lived. I looked at my mom and told her to drive me downtown because I wanted to protest! I was only 9 but I knew I wanted to do something. I went to the theater every day after school until they finally agreed to let Joe stay. That was my first victory as an activist and that feeling is still with me to this day.
BEYOND THE FOX...
Following my first protest victory, I elevated my activism and starting fighting for the protection of the people and the environment surrounding me. Activism is so important, and I believe every single person can be a changemaker.
